THE SITUATION
The client was a global health nonprofit with a highly engaged social media community. They were launching a new program — a community-authored guide built from advice shared by people who had already navigated a difficult diagnosis. The goal was to get the guide into as many hands as possible, collect email addresses for ongoing engagement, and do it all without alienating an audience that doesn't respond well to feeling marketed to.
THE PROBLEM I IDENTIFIED
The previous version of this campaign sent users to a landing page to download the resource. It generated around 1,000 downloads at $9 each — and collected zero email addresses. The landing page created friction at exactly the wrong moment: when someone was ready to engage. Every extra click was a drop-off point, and the form felt transactional for an audience that responds to community, not conversion funnels.
WHAT I DID DIFFERENTLY
I proposed embedding the PDF directly into the Meta ad platform, allowing users to download the guide without ever leaving Facebook. No landing page. No form to fill out. Users simply consented to share their email address as part of the native download flow — one tap, done. It removed every unnecessary step between interest and action, and it turned a passive ad impression into an email acquisition at the same time. For a nonprofit operating on tight margins, the efficiency gain wasn't just nice to have — it was the whole game.
